Indian envoy asks alumni of ITEC to promote bilateral ties  

The Ambassador of India to South Sudan, Vishnu Kumar Sharma has advised the alumni of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme (ITEC) to push for closer bilateral ties between the two countries.

The Ambassador of India to South Sudan, Vishnu Kumar Sharma has advised the alumni of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme (ITEC) to push for closer bilateral ties between the two countries.

“The alumni need to act as bridge to develop people- to -people understanding for even closer bilateral relations and trade ties between the two countries,” said Sharma on Friday during the get-together of alumni of ITEC in Juba.

Sharma also underscored the ongoing efforts for deepening cooperation in the health sector between India and South Sudan, adding that ITEC training is an assistance program under which over 1400 South Sudanese have attended ITEC training courses, fully funded by the government of India.

The Indian Embassy organized a get-together of alumni of ITEC under the theme of “Health and Wellness” on 15 March, 2024 at the Indian Embassy.

 Participants used the opportunity to share their experiences in India with the audience and gave valuable feedback about the various programmes they attended in India and how these benefited them in their career.

 Presentations were also made on the avenues of Medical Tourism to India, which is one of the leading global destinations for quality and affordable health care facilities and there was also a talk on the benefits of Ayurveda, an ancient Indian healing science dealing with herbal medicines.

An Indian doctor from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) made a presentation on lifestyle diseases and among other things educated the audience on how these could be prevented by leading an active life and by ensuring a balanced daily meal.

 A representative of Golden Pharmacy in Juba, also gave presentation on Indian pharmaceutical sector, meanwhile trained Indian yoga instructors demonstrated various poses that are helpful in preventing lifestyle diseases.   

Julia Aker Duany, the Head of National Civil Service Commission, while addressing the gathering as the chief guest commended the government of India for its valuable support in capacity building of South Sudan.

Duany revealed that South Sudan is seeking India’s expertise and experience in building a robust civil service system in South Sudan.
