The Chairperson for the Jagei Youth Association, John Dieu Gatwech on Monday asked the state-owned NILPET to consider appointing at least three individuals from Jagei community to work in Sudd Petroleum Operating Company (SPOC).

“Our attention has been drawn to the recent secondment of the NILEPET Managing Director of six (6) people to various key positions in SPOC dated March 6, 2024, while it is within your mandate to make these appointments, we regret to note that no single appointee to SPOC comes from the Jagei community,” said Gatwech in an interview  with The Dawn in Juba.

He called on the Managing Director of NILEPET, Eng. Bernard Amuor Makeny to address this matter with the urgency it deserves in order to avoid any conveniences that could come up if the demands of the community are not met.

Gatwech revealed that Jagei community residing in Koch County of Unity State continues to pay heavy price when it comes to environmental pollution caused by waste from the Tharjieth oil field.

“We believe in the governance and administration of a country where laws, policies, government structures and financial investment decisions take into account the needs of the youth,” he said.
