The Chairperson of the National Constitutional Review Commission (NCRC), Riang Yer Zuor on Monday said they will soon endorse the contents of the NCRC Action Plan and Civic Education and Public Consultation manual.
“The purpose of this workshop is to validate the contents of four documents; NCRC rules of procedures, NCRC structure, NCRC Action Plan and NCRC Civic Education and Public Consultation Manual,” said Zuor during the opening of the two-day validation workshop at Crown Hotel in Juba.
Zuor revealed that they organized workshop in January 2024 to revise and adopt basic documents of the NCRC so as to render the commission functional, adding that the Constitution-Making Process Act 2022 was also introduced to members.
The two day organized with financial support from the Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in collaboration with the government and people of Japan.
Samuel Tilahun, the Legal Advisor to the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Special Envoy for South Sudan Ismail Wais, said that the people of South Sudan are expected to meaningfully participate in the upcoming constitution-making process.
“People of South Sudan are expected to be actively and meaningfully involved in the constitution -making process and not just be symbolically associated with it,” said Tilahun.
Tilahum also noted that the constitution-making process should be inclusive to build trust between the public and their leaders.
South Sudan is due for elections in December 2024 to transition the country toward democratic governance.
