"We Dare where others fear"

The leader of the National Democratic Movement (NDC), Lam Akol Ajawin on Tuesday said that lack of trust among the parties has slowed down the implementation of the pending tasks within the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.
“It is the same thing that led us to extend the transition period from three years to two years and still counting, you would be surprised that parties to the peace agreement never sit down to discuss things except when they are dividing power and ministerial positions,” said Ajawin during the opening of the three-day conference organized by South Sudan Civic Society Forum in Juba.
Ajawin disclosed that the current peace agreement grants legitimacy to the current government, adding that the peace agreement was signed to build trust among the parties to the agreement.
“We wanted not only to stop the war but also sustain peace and build trust among the parties and make reconciliation for parties to work together and collaborate in delivering the peace agreement to the people,” said Ajawin.
“The missing link which is dialogue is the only thing that will deliver South Sudan from quagmire and the dilemma facing the elites on whether to hold election or not, we must engage in serious dialogue,” he added.
In August 2022, the parties to the revitalized peace agreement agreed to extend the transitional period which was due to expire in February 2023 by 24 months, to allow for the implementation of pending tasks leading to the conduct of election in December 2024.
