The Commissioner General of the South Sudan National Revenue Authority (SSNRA), Africano Mande has commended the newly introduced Electronic Cargo Tracking System for improving monitoring and facilitating cargo movement from neighbouring Kenya to South Sudan.

He said on Saturday during the inauguration of the branch of the Bank of South Sudan in the Nimule border area, that they are working to improve revenue collections, adding that the Central Bank is digitizing revenue collections.

“The Central Bank is giving us a digital window, we have recognized three companies; Crawford, Panda and Invesco Ltd, people are complaining in Mombasa in Kenya that we are digitizing, in all countries, you cannot move without an electronic tracking system,” said Mande.

“Crawford is providing us visibility, we see our money on the screen and Panda is inspecting trucks, for example, just to give a very simple statistics, a few months back 1777 trucks were moving from Eldoret and Nakuru in Kenya heading to South Sudan but only 700 reached South Sudan,” he disclosed.

Mande said that the opening of a branch of the Central Bank has closed loopholes for corruption, adding that SSNRA is working in tandem with the Central Bank to ensure revenue is accounted for.

“We collect the money but the money does not reach the bank, we want to reduce the distance between SSNRA and the central bank, there is no more intermediary, we have got a window to reduce the distance between us and the Ministry of Finance,” he said.

Mande assured that currently, they are implementing economic governance reforms.
