The government institutions such as the Customs Department under now the South Sudan Revenue Authority have been for long accused of embezzling non-oil revenues at the main border of Nimule.

The opening of the Central Bank in Nimule promises to bring an end to the blatant swindling of taxes by corrupt customs officers because all the revenue collected will be deposited safely in the Central Bank for custody.

The Central Bank under Alic’s leadership should be commended for implementing important reforms, which some of his predecessors envisioned but were either unable to implement or were myopic.

South Sudanese stand to reap big from reforms that are underway because the government will boost its coffers with non-oil revenue.

Alic and his counterparts in the South Sudan National Revenue Authority and the Ministry of Finance and Planning are also overseeing reforms in governance within their institutions.
