Natalina Geoffrey became the first ever South Sudanese to win a gold medal at the just concluded 13th edition of the 2023 All Africa Games in Accra, Ghana.

The 19-year-old won the 21 km spring marathon within one hour, 14 minutes and 36 seconds beating fancied athletes from Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia.

According to Majok Ayii Muorwel, the President of the South Sudan Athletics Federation, Geofrey’s victory is a strategic achievement for South Sudan at the continental level.

South Sudan participated for the first time in the All Africa Games in 2015 in Congo Brazzaville.

The All Africa Games formerly known as Pan Africa Games held every four years is a continental sports event organized by the African Union in collaboration with the Association of African sports Confederation.
