Senior Sudanese cleric calls for peaceful coexistence in South Sudan

The visiting senior Sudanese Islamic cleric, Sheikh Al-Zain Mohammed Ahmed has called on South Sudanese to coexist peacefully and work towards achieving development across the country.

“South Sudanese are generous and welcoming people, I have seen a cordial relationship among the people, I hope people will set aside their differences, whether political, tribal or any discrimination and move forward with development,” said Ahmed on Tuesday in an interview with The Dawn in Juba.

“It is time to arrest political violence and discrimination and hatred to lead a life of love and unity. South Sudan has potential in agriculture and the oil sector and people must cooperate to achieve development,” he disclosed.

Ahmed said both Sudan and South Sudan share critical viewpoint revolving around the valuable insights of religion, adding that religious freedom in South Sudan will foster unity at this critical period of transition.

“South Sudan has freedom of worship, by way of religion men of God refrain from involvement in hatred; it will bring people together as people of faith. We encourage all people to prioritize peace and development,” he said. 

The Sudanese cleric who arrived in Juba on the invitation of the Sudanese embassy and the South Sudan Islamic Council is expected to stay in Juba for three days.
