Over 200 members of the opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) on Wednesday crossed over to the SPLM party in Warrap State.
Benjamin Piol Buoi, the former Minister of Peacebuilding in Warrap State led a team of 231 SPLM-IO members who renounced the party led by current First Vice President Riek Machar.
Last week, more than 150 members of SPLM-IO in Warrap State led by a group dubbed G11 switched allegiance to the SPLM and accused the SPLM-IO of refusing to participate in the upcoming 2024 general election.
Chaguor Ater Bol, a member of the SPLM-IO in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly from Warrap State, said only 7 people defected to the SPLM led by President Salva Kiir.
“The party came to know that only seven members are confirmed to have defected to the SPLM Party in Warrap state,” he said.
The alleged defectors were received at the SPLM State Secretariat in Kuajok by the SPLM State Secretariat.
