"We Dare where others fear"

The Chairperson of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) and also co-founder of the Female Journalists’ Network, Josephine Achiro on Friday said female journalists will be supported to grow and compete with their male counterparts in the media industry.
“The Female Journalists’ Network is a dream come true for female journalists, With FJN, we want to use the platform to correct, to adjust ourselves as mothers, as daughters and work professionally as journalists,” said Achiro during a symposium held at the headquarter of AMDISS in Juba.
Achiro revealed that at independence of South Sudan there were very few female journalists in the profession, adding that FJN has supported many female journalists to do their work in the country since independence in 2011.
“In the past, you face a lot of challenges but you do not have a platform to share them, you are lucky to have FJN in South Sudan, we will together make a difference, we shall have a better female journalists in this country that will prosper tomorrow,” said Achiro.
FJN is a registered non-profit, advocacy and development based association that focuses on addressing the welfare of female journalists across the country.
The membership of the Female Journalist Network in South Sudan is drawn from various media outlets such as print media, broadcast media, freelance and female journalists in advocacy.
Female journalists who attended the symposium said they face immense barriers in the media industry such as harassment, sexual exploitation and gender bias among other challenges.
They said it is crucial for media organizations to address pressing concerns of female journalists including elimination of harassment within the industry.
