Lakes state said on Saturday it recorded 1, 305 cases of Tuberculosis from January to April this year, according to Stephen Mathiang Deng, the State Minister for Cabinet Affairs.
He warned the public to stop sharing utensils such as cups, spoons and plates in homes and schools has led to an increase in the number of Tuberculosis cases in the State.
Mathiang was speaking during the commemoration of World Tuberculosis Day in Rumbek town.
Dr. Barnaba Bol Amukpiu, Acting Director General for the State Ministry of Health said that Tuberculosis is not only spread through sharing of utensils but also poor hygiene and sanitation.
William Deng Nyuon, the representative from national government said they donated some equipment for diagnosing Tuberculosis in the State.
Isaac Mabior Mayen, State Coordinator for Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDs called for increased investment in the fight against Tuberculosis.
The ceremony to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day was sponsored by Ali Arkangelo Association (AAA).

The UNICEF representative, Dr. Ahawa Kuol applauded the national government for putting emphasis on the fight against Tuberculosis.
She encouraged medical doctors and nurses to give BCG vaccine to new born babies in order to prevent death of infants from Tuberculosis.
Dr. Malith Maker Manyiel disclosed that machines for diagnosing Tuberculosis including gene experts for test are available in the state hospital, Mapuordit and Yirol.
