NBGS Governor hosts Iftar dinner for Muslims

The Office of the Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State on Friday hosted an Iftar dinner in Aweil town for Muslims.

The dinner organized at the State Council of Ministers’ headquarters in Aweil town was attended by Muslim leaders including state ministers and county commissioners.

Speaking during dinner, Dr. Tong Lual Ayat, Deputy Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State said the Muslim community living in the State is part of the community.

“As state government, we are recognizing Muslims as part of the community in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State and we don’t discriminate, we respect all the communities in the state and all of them are under the responsibility of the government,” Lual said.

Lual urged Muslims to embrace unity for peaceful co-existence among the community.

“As the government of Northern Bahr El Ghazal, we are requesting you to be united; you should unite with those with and without religion because all of you are citizens of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State,” he said.

For his part, Ustaz Jidu, Chairperson of the Sudanese community in Aweil town appreciated the office of the governor for hosting the Iftar dinner.

“We used to tell our brothers in the North that we don’t consider ourselves like people living in a foreign country, we are like living in Sudan and South Sudan is our country,” Jidu said.

Ibrahim Deng Akok, Secretary General of the Islamic Council in Aweil encouraged Muslims and all other people of different faith to engage in agriculture.

“I would like to urge all citizens to listen to the government’s call and engage in agriculture to boost local production,” Akok said.
