The Transitional National Legislative Assembly on Monday adjourned sitting after the upper and lower houses presented different agendas for deliberation.
Both the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) and the Council of State were expected to discuss the speech of the President in the second sitting of the first parliamentary session.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit delivered his speech during the reopening of the parliament on April 2, 2024, after four months of recess.
The TNLA presented the agenda on the joint report of the three Standing Specialized Committees on Water Resources and Irrigation, Legislation and Justice and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the Ratification of the Cooperative Framework Agreement of the Nile Basin Initiative.
Another agenda was on Logging and Depletion of Forests in Morobo County, Central Equatoria State.
John Agany Deng, the spokesman for the TNLA said the sitting was adjourned due to miscommunication of the agenda between the two houses.
Agany said the miscommunication between the two houses on the agenda led to the adjournment of Monday’s sitting.
“As per the item to be discussed, the first item should have been the speech of the President which is to be deferred later by Rt. Hon. Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba,” he said.
Agany said the TNLA will commence a joint extraordinary sitting on Friday after the Eid Al-Fitr holiday.
