Former coach of bright stars ends 10-year football career in South Sudan

A South Korean missionary and football coach, Hung Se Lim who coached the national football team in 2014 is returning to Seoul after 10 years of coaching football in the country.

A South Korean missionary and football coach, Hung Se Lim who coached the national football team in 2014 is returning to Seoul after 10 years of coaching football in the country.

Lim told The Dawn on Monday, that he arrived in South Sudan in 2011 and his first stop was in Tonj South County of Warrap State where coached grassroots football.

 “As everyone can imagine, playing football does not cost any money,” said Lim.

He disclosed that with his contacts in South Korea, he managed to secure sports equipment and balls for young people in Tonj South to boost their talents.

Besides training football, Lim has supported charity activities including, contributing to the health and education projects at Father Lee Tae Seok Foundation Leprosy Clinic in Juba and Tonj South County.

“I have trained more than 20 teams from Under- 12, Under- 15, Under- 17   and under -20, and Under -23 and including the senior women’s team to international tournaments all over Africa and South Korea,” said Lim.

Lim also helped construct 4 schools in Tonj South County and also donated to these schools 19 containers of necessary products including sport materials and uniforms.

About Lim

Lim signed in 2014 a contract former President South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) Chabur Goc Alei to coach the men’s national football team. At that time the national team was ill-equipped and he managed to secure necessities for it.

 In March 2024, Lim participated in the 2023 All Africa Olympic Games held in Accra, Ghana between March 3rd 2024 to March 24th 2024 with Under -20 national football team.
