SPLM mulls establishing committee to review high commodity prices in markets

The Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) on Friday revealed plans to form a committee to review the rising prices of basic commodities prices.

“We will form a committee to liaise with relevant institutions such as the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Trade and Industry and security institutions and also Juba City Council such that we see into the issue of prices,” said Santo Malek Anai, the SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs and Mobilization while briefing journalists in Juba, during the meeting of party members to discuss the recent visit of the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“We want to see the issue of prices, some of the issues we have discussed included elections, security and the economy especially the issue of prices of basic commodities in the market, we have seen things increasing instead of coming down,” he said.

Malek also reiterated that the transitional unity government is ready to hold general elections in December this year.

He said the recent establishment of key bodies such as the Political Parties’ Council, National Constitutional Review Commission, and the National Elections Commission vindicates that the readiness to conduct the elections.

“The country is going for elections in December, South Sudan is not going for another transitional extension, we are going for elections to end the transitional arrangement and government,” Malek said.
