The Commissioner of Juba County Emmanuel Tate Ezbon has warned residents of Lokiliri Payam of Juba County in Central Equatoria State to desist from cutting down trees.

“Trees are a very important natural resource for the community, Boma and Payams and it is yours and don’t allow foreigners to come with their machines to destroy them,” Ezbon said during memorial service on Friday for the five people killed in November 2022, at Nyajerbe village of Lokiliri Payam.

The five people were killed by suspected herders from neighboring Jonglei State.

Ezbon called on the public to protect and safeguard the environment.

“The cutting of trees contributes to climate change and don’t think that the rain comes from heaven, it is the forests which contributes to rain and desert areas don’t usually experience rainfall,” he said.

“You need to be trained to protect your forest so that the next generation can benefit from the forest,” Ezbon added.

He enlightened the communities on the importance of trees and how they should fight deforestation to protect the environment.
