The Governor of Lakes State, Rin Tueny Mabor on Thursday said that the upcoming general election is critical in transitioning the country toward peace and stability.
“Elections are the only avenue to end this transitional government of national unity, and lead to peace and stability in the country,” Mabor said while reopening the State parliament after three-month recess in Rumbek town.
He said that all political parties are free to conduct their activities unhindered in Lakes State.
Mabor disclosed that his administration is prioritizing improving school enrolment and quality learning, adding that many schools are under construction and renovation such as Rumbek Secondary School.
In addition, he noted that other schools being constructed are in Rumbek East, Cueibet and Rumbek North counties.
Mabor also noted that they are putting much emphasis on developing agriculture in order to improve food security across the State.
Lakes State lacks good roads, clean and safe water and stable mobile communication network, said Mabor.
He noted that Awerial County, Rumbek North and Cueibet County are some of the most food insecure areas in the State.
Agum Jacob Chagai, the Speaker of Lakes State parliament, said among the achievements registered by legislators before going on recess includes the passing of the state fiscal budget and amendment of Lakes State Act 2010.
