The Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative on Friday graduated 753 students after completing three-month training in peace education aimed at conflict resolution at the community level in the country.

Caroline Descombris, the Executive Director of Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, said during the graduation ceremony training will enable young people to handle conflict in the communities.

“Peace education is going to be a tool used to better manage emotions, to be able to handle conflict that might arise in the community, we will always deal with any kind or level of conflict in our life,” said Descomboris.

“You will make sure you deal with issues that might arise in the community, we cannot accept that violence and conflict is the norm, peace will always prevail because of the commitment of young peace makers,” she added.

Bush Buse, the Program Coordinator for Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative in Central Equatoria State, said the graduates will work to promote peaceful coexistence among communities.

“Our mandate is to promote peaceful co-existence and cultural diversity, is one aspect that we promote, we have people who come from diverse communities from different tribes but they will become people of South Sudan,” said Buse.

The Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative was founded in 2012 by American actor Forest Whitaker.

It is a non-profit organization with a global scope and reach in the area of peace and conflict resolution.
