The Ministry of General Education and Instruction on Monday said it has given three-week period to national examination markers to complete marking of senior four examination transcripts.

Martin Tako Moyi, Deputy Minister of General Education and Instruction, said they have started marking transcripts for 44,999 students who sat for the South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) in December 2023.

“We will do our best to mark examinations within the limit of three weeks. Within three weeks, we will produce the results because we have been just waiting for funding,” Tako told journalists at a press conference in Juba on Monday.

Tako said the marking of exams had delayed due to lack of budget.

“The delay is obvious that we didn’t receive the necessary funding for marking the examinations,” he said.

“We were ready and alert just waiting for the money and now that money has come nothing will prevent us from completing the work within three weeks,” Tako added.

Tako noted that the delay to mark examinations as well as producing the results on time will affect the academic year.

During the ordinary meeting of the Examination Council in February, 2024, the Minister of General Education and Instruction, Awut Deng Acuil decried the lack of funding for the National Examination Council-the body responsible for marking examination transcripts.

She said the National Examination Council has been operating for the past two years without budget.

Awut noted that marking exams for 68,000 students cost about 2 billion South Sudan Pounds.
