At least 558 secondary school teachers in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State were on Friday subjected to screening test to evaluate their competence in delivering quality education in the State.

The screening test was administered by lecturers from Rumbek University of Science and Technology.

Tong Aken Ngor, the Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, said the screening test aims to weed out unqualified teachers and absorb the qualified ones into the payment system.

“It (screening) is not only for getting teachers, it is for getting qualified teachers who can teach our children and the coming generation,” Aken said.

He said the screening test will improve the quality of education and the welfare of teachers in the State.

“We appreciate the minister of education, the director general and all staff of general education for their efforts to improve teaching in secondary and primary schools in the State,” Aken said.

“There was a complaint that there are politicians and non-educationist among teachers, this screening will mark the beginning of quality education in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State,” he added.

Santino Bol Akok, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Minister of education said the screening test will improve quality of learning in schools across the State.

“The purpose of this event is to take our secondary school teachers through a teacher’s assessment test to see their level of education, because they need to know what they are supposed to do in the field,” Bol said.

He disclosed that teachers sat for Math, English and Civic Education, adding that the competence test will sharpen them to impact the students with knowledge and skills necessary for their success.
