Five people were confirmed killed in Monday’s attack in Akobo County by suspected armed Murle youth from neighboring Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), according to the spokesperson of Jonglei State.

Nyamar Lony Thichot Ngundeng, the Jonglei State Minister of Information and Communication, in a statement issued on Wednesday said 3 other civilians are nursing critical wounds sustained in a separate road ambush in Padiet payam of Duk County.

She said the first incident involved an ambush on a commercial vehicle traveling from Padiet payam of Duk County to Uror County leaving one dead and three children injured.

Ngundeng revealed that these attacks unfolded on May 9, 2024 in Duk County and on May 13, 2024 in Akobo County of Jonglei State, adding that there was also an ambush at Palooch on cattle traders enroute from Uror County to Duk County leaving a South Sudan Peoples Defence Force (SSPDF) officer injured.

‘’Despite ongoing peace talks in Pibor between Jonglei State and the Greater Pibor Administration Area (GPAA), Murle armed youth have carried out four separate attacks with devastating repercussion,’’ Ngundeng said.
