The governor of Eastern Equatoria State Louis Lobong Lojore has urged the transitional government of national unity to support Central Equatoria State to end rampant land grabbing.

“Sincerely speaking your Excellency, there is illegal and unprocedural acquiring of land by individual South Sudanese whose initial intention is to acquire land for commercial purposes and not to live in and for me, these are people who are grabbing the land,” said Lobong on Saturday during the endorsement rally for President Salva Kiir as sole flag bearer for the SPLM party in Juba.

Lobong appealed to the national government to fully support the government of Central Equatoria State to amicably address land grabbing.

“We as equatoria region believe in democratic system of governance where people elect their own leaders,” he said.

He revealed that some individuals in Equatoria speak rudely about land grabbers out of anger and frustration, adding that land grabbers sell their loot cheaply to foreigners.

Augustino Jadalla Wani, the Governor of Central Equatoria State said the priorities of his government include addressing challenges and obstacles hindering national programs for democratic transition.

“Central Equatoria State leaders under my supervision will engage all communities to address security issues, support resettlement of refugees and internally displaced persons, and address the land issues and continue with efforts for the return of cattle herders to their areas of origin to pave way for agriculture,” Wani said.
