Jonglei State authorities have recovered 10 abducted women and children from Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).
Nyamar Lony Thichot Ngundeng, the Jonglei State minister of information and communication who also doubles as government spokesperson, said the peace talks between Jonglei State and GPAA authorities has led to the recovery of 10 abducted children.
“On Friday, May 24, 2024, Jonglei State recovered 10 abductees from Greater Pibor Administrative Area, 6 of them were received in Bor County by Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Minister of Gender and Social Welfare in Jonglei State, the other 4 children are currently brought to Juba,” Ngundeng said in a statement issued on Saturday.
She disclosed that three women and three children were recently reunited with their relatives in Bor town.
Ngundeng appreciated Denay Jock Chagor, the Governor of Jonglei State and Atong Kuol Manyang, the Deputy Governor for their tireless efforts to ensure that the people of Jonglei State are reunited with their loved ones.
She also appreciated community chiefs, security organs and individuals for their hard work and as well as their commitment to the leadership of Jonglei State and Greater Pibor Administrative Area to ensure the return of the remaining abductees.
“This recovery is a result of conferences and Peace talks between Jonglei State Government and Greater Pibor Administrative Area and these conferences took place in Akobo County, Jonglei State, Gumruk of Greater Pibor Administrative Area and Anyidi of Bor County in Jonglei State,” Ngundeng said.
