Four ministers failed on Tuesday to appear before MPs in the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (RTNLA) to answer queries on the worsening food insecurity in the county.
This forced the Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba to adjourn the plenary sitting over the absence of Puot Kang Chol, Minister of Petroleum, and William Anyuon Kuol, the Minister of Trade and Industry.
“Considering that the Minister of Agriculture is not read with a document, the minister of trade, because they are the one who are purchasing food is not also available, the minister of petroleum is not also available, only the minister of finance who has limited answers is available,” Nunu said.
“These three ministries are related, agriculture, trade, petroleum and finance and the majority of them are not here, and therefore, we will be wasting time and call them again and that is why we should adjourn the sitting so that the minister of agriculture prepares her document,” she added.
John Agany Deng, the MP representing Aweil East County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, raised a procedural matter regarding the absence of the summoned ministers, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the session.
In May 2024, Stephen Bol, MP representing Mayom County in Unity State tabled a motion detailing the worsening food insecurity in his constituency amid skyrocketing prices of commodities across markets in the country.
The minister of petroleum Puot Kang Chol and William Anyuon Kuol, the minister of trade and industry are currently abroad.
