Martial arts is a sport that could help transform lives of criminal minded youth in South Sudan

The story of James Majok Gau, is full of challenges and triumphs in his journey to become current African continental Muay Thai boxing champion. He has risen from the world of crime on the streets to become an inspiration to youth.

Many youth in Juba and other major towns are wasting away due to drugs and other criminal enterprises.

Athletics such as kickboxing and mixed martial arts can change the fortunes of many unemployed talented youth.

Coach Puro Okello Obob, had a decent life while in Canda but because of the love for his country of birth, he returned to South Sudan unearth the next superstars in mixed martial arts. Mixed martial arts is a game that can thrive and help put many young South Sudanese on the international scene.

On Monday, coach Okello received a rare visit by international kickboxing promoter Soslanbek Izrailov, who is in the country to track talent.

The good news is that four of coach Okello’s students including James Majok will head to Russia on September 16 to participate for the first time in the international friendship tournament.

This tournament on European soil will boost the morale of the South Sudan professional fighters.
