"We Dare where others fear"

A member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) has demanded President Salva Kiir Mayardit address the high cost of living, among other emerging issues plaguing the country.
David De Dau, a lawmaker representing Twic East County of Jonglei State at the TNLA, decried the state of the economy and the high cost of living as the most pressing issues that Kiir’s administration should “be devoted” to solving.
“Appealing to the President, looking at the plight of the people of South Sudan, looking at the current situation in the country, the country is at a stall, still has uncertainty, people are not in a position of defending themselves economically,” Dau told The Dawn in an interview yesterday.
Dau said many people can no longer afford to send their children to school, while others are struggling to pay bills, including putting food on the table.
“And life is getting worse on a daily basis, is shrinking on a weekly basis, also what is coming politically, political situation, the country is in an extreme political uncertainty,” he said.
According to Dau, the 2018 peace pact which was supposed to bring hope to the people has been abandoned, and parties are now negotiating another peace deal in Nairobi, Kenya.
He suggested that the leadership should seek psychological assistance to help in addressing the economic turmoil.
“So I am actually appealing to the President that there is a need for his intervention, if they are not willing, if they are not in a position to address the situation, then they should call for psychological assistance,” he said.
