President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed Maj. Gen Mathew PulJang to head the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) 4th Infantry Division in Unity State after relieving Maj. Gen William Manyang Mayak.

Puljang will be deputized by Maj. Gen Ding Adim, who served as the Director for Officers’ Affairs in SSPDF headquarter prior to his appointment.

Gen. Manyang Mayak has been reassigned as the new Director for Operations at SSPDF General headquarter in Bilpham, according Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, SSPDF Spokesman.

“He redeployed him (Mayak) from being the Commander of Division 4 to being Director for Operations at SSPDF General Headquarters in Bilpam, here in Juba,” Koang told The Dawn on Wednesday.

Koang described the changes as normal administrative undertaking exercised from time to time by the Chief of Defense Forces, adding that there is nothing special about it.

Maj. Gen Matthew Puljang has been repeatedly documented in the Small Arms Survey report for his active roles in Unity State conflicts in the recent past.

He was sanctioned by the UN for the war crimes committed during the 2013 war.
