NSS vows to uphold freedom of expression ahead of 2024 polls

The National Security Services said on Friday vowed to uphold freedom of expression and access to information ahead of 2024 general election.

The National Security Services said on Friday vowed to uphold freedom of expression and access to information ahead of 2024 general election.

David John Kumuri, the Director of Public Relation at the National Security Service’s Internal Security Bureau said his office will be build strong and effective relation with the media ahead of elections.

“Article 21 section 1 and 2 of South Sudan constitution 2011 as amended requires that every citizens has to be accorded right to freedom of expression as well as access, receiving and distribution of information and publication,” said Kumuri during a roundtable discussion on Friday.

Kumuri warned journalists against disseminating information that incite violence.

“We are operating within the context of the law and the constitution, the nation security services ensure that the right accorded, freedom of expression and freedom to access information are respected and exercised,” he said.

He reaffirmed their commitment to protect the constitution and maintain the security.

“The national security services has been ensuring, is now ensuring and will never ever compromise its stand for effecting and protecting the constitution as well as implementing its mandate within the context of the law.”

The stakeholders meeting held under the theme “Building an effective relationship” was organized by the union of Journalists of South Sudan with support from the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA)
