The first Undersecretary in the ministry of finance and planning, Malual Tap Dieu on Monday vowed to address the current economic crisis.

Malual told the Dawn in an interview on Monday that the Ministry will take actions to curb hyperinflation and stabilize consumer market prices in the country.

“Since H. E Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President of the Republic of South Sudan tasked the finance managers to oversee the primary roles of ministry in conjunction to control financial resources of the country accordingly,” Malual said.

He said the civil war in Sudan has severely disrupted oil exports, depriving South Sudanese coffers of petro dollars, the government’s main source of revenue.

“The country has been depending on oil which was cut off shortly for nearly two months by conflict that erupted in Khartoum (Sudan) and Yemen, we couldn’t export copper, gold, Agricultural produce among others,” he said.

He stressed the need for the country to avoid over dependence on the oil sector.

“We wanted to remind the public that one fundamental task is to move away from overdependence on oil to other sectors that can support our economy’s production in the country,” he said.

He disclosed that the Ministry will pay the salaries of civil servants and organized forces who have undergone for months without pay.

“President Salva and the economic cluster are working closely with their citizens, the country is trying very hard to stabilize this current situation to pay monthly salaries sooner than later to civil servants and all organized forces who have actually endured this critical situation.”
