Manufacturers to receive certification trade mark for consumer protection

The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards on Tuesday said it has started issuing certification trademarks to local manufacturers in a bid to protect consumers and fair trade practices.

The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards on Tuesday said it has started issuing certification trademarks to local manufacturers in a bid to protect consumers and fair trade practices.

Joseph Moum Ajak, the National Minister of Trade and Industry said the launch of the certification trade mark reflects the government’s dedication to consumer protection and fair international trade practices.

“The launch of the certification trade mark holds great importance for South Sudan, as it will enhance market access for our produce, and also promote regional and international trade,” Ajak said during the ceremony held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Juba.

He added that this certification program will facilitate smooth export procedures, promote South Sudanese goods in the international market.

 Gloria Nyoka, the Executive Director for South Sudan National Bureau of Standards, said that the launching of the certification trade mark is a fulfilment of EAC regulations and certification standards under the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACfTA).

She noted that certification will boost competitiveness of South Sudan products.

The ceremony was attended by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards, Kenya Bureau of Standards, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the International Trade Centre.
