South Sudan, Ethiopia hold joint border meeting

South Sudan and Ethiopia have held their first-ever joint border administrators meeting in Addis Ababa. The two-day event concluded on Friday with calls to continue strengthening people -to -people relations and trade ties between the two sisterly countries.

South Sudan and Ethiopia have held their first-ever joint border administrators meeting in Addis Ababa.

The two-day event concluded on Friday with calls to continue strengthening people -to -people relations and trade ties between the two sisterly countries.

The discussion centered on major issues of security, migration, trade, infrastructure development and socio-cultural exchanges among others.

Ambassador Mesganu Arga, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, said the people of Ethiopia and South Sudan share a long history and desire for peace, progress and prosperity.

“He stressed the necessity to unify the visions and positions of the two countries and the importance of taking consistent joint actions to address their common challenges that have negative repercussions on the security, stability and development of the two brotherly countries and on the region at large,” said a statement issued by the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Facebook.

It noted that the two countries will jointly intensify efforts to ensure peace and security and enhance trans boundary development.

Arga urged all stakeholders to work towards realizing the successful implementation of the outcome of the meeting.

Monday Semaya K. Kumba, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan, described the meeting as a crucial milestone in the history of the bilateral engagement between the two countries.

“Acknowledging the support of Ethiopia since the time of the struggle for independence, he reiterated South Sudan’s commitment to the implementation of the resolutions on which the two sides agreed,” said Kumba.
