SSOA leadership calls for dialogue to resolve disagreements

The leadership of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) has requested the signatory parties to the 2018 revitalized peace agreement to organize dialogue for the parties to agree on the election timeline as the transitional period nears it’s end.

Josephine Lagu, the Chairperson for SSOA called on the signatory parties to the 2018 revitalized peace agreement to sit and dialogue on the way forward on elections.

“However, there certainly are others that must be discussed so that the parties agree together about what can be done. Let us dialogue to see together how the transitional period can be ended peacefully in the way it should,” said Lagu in statement issued in Juba on Monday.

“The position of SSOA is that we should aim at the holding the elections as stipulated in the roadmap. For sure, there are prerequisites that can be implemented to render the elections in December 2024 worthy of the name,” she said.

On Friday, the Chairperson of the National Election Commission, Abednego Akok announced that the 2024 general election will be held from December 22, 2024 to February 22, 2025 as stipulated in the roadmap of the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.
