Rajaf payam residents in Gumbo suburb have hailed the training on sexual reproductive health implemented by Jamnel Care,
Jamnel care -a national NGO sensitized people on forced marriages, teenage pregnancies and gender based violence over the weekend.
Peter Pitia, Vice Chairperson for the youth of Rajaf Payam in Central Equatoria State, said in a statement issued on Sunday in Juba, that the training has been helpful since they have been grappling with how to deal with early forced marriages, teenage pregnancies, and Gender-Based Violence.
“We now feel empowered to challenge the status quo, and ensure that everyone’s rights and dignity are respected. We strongly believe that women should have the same rights and opportunities as men,” said Pitia.
Pitia noted that teenage girls have been struggling with how to manage menstruation periods, adding that they have now acquired more knowledge on the issues.
“We have gained a deeper understanding of the risks of HIV/AIDS and that emphasized the importance of community awareness,” he said.
Daniel Juma Charles, a resident OF Gumbo, said the training on sexual reproductive health and rights will help in address gender- based violence, domestic violence and other harmful traditional practices in the area.
“We are eager to start meaningful conversations in the communities and build resilience against SRHR challenges, the major goal is to create a safer and more supportive environment for all people,” said Charles.
In South Sudan, women, girls, and other marginalized groups face challenges including limited access to healthcare, gender inequalities, cultural norms, and high rates of gender-based violence.
Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) encompasses addressing physical health which include access to contraception, maternal health care, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), safe and legal abortion services, and delivering services crucial in improving health outcomes and enhancing quality of life across the country.
