Norway urges leaders to prepare country for elections

The Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan, Linken Nymann Berryman, Tuesday called on political leaders to prepare the country for peaceful and credible elections slated for 22 December 2024.

The Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan, Linken Nymann Berryman, Tuesday called on political leaders to prepare the country for peaceful and credible elections slated for 22 December 2024.

Berryman made this call in her message on occasion to mark  the 13th anniversary of Independence of South Sudan.

“We want to see necessary preparations for peaceful and credible elections, including unification of armed forces, opening of civic and political space, and credible, independent electoral institutions,” Berryman said.

She continued to urge the transitional government of national unity to find solutions that unite the South Sudanese.

“Political leaders are the custodians of the well-being of their people. We continue to urge the transitional government of South Sudan to find solutions that unite and urge the leaders to dialogue in good faith,” she said.

The Norwegian Ambassador reaffirmed her government commitment to continue to stand and support the people of South Sudan.

“We had expected more. We continue to stand by the people of South Sudan. Norway’s support to the people of South Sudan endures in numerous ways, with the latest being our backing of the Tumaini initiative.”

She said Norway has been standing by the people of South Sudan for more than half a century.

“Driven by values of freedom, democracy, gender equality and human rights, we provided support through difficult times.”
