Turalei payam was crowned champions of the fourth edition of theTwic Mayardit football peace tournament on Tuesday after beating Akocthon 2-1 in the final played at Munuki play grounds in Juba.
The Chairperson of Twic Mayardit peace tournament Manut Sultan Bith appreciated the administration of Munuki playgrounds for providing the venue for the peace tournament since it’s first edition in 2020.
He congratulated Turalei payam football team upon being crowned winners, and also encouraged youth who participated in the peace tournament to continue preaching peace and reconciliation in their communities.
Bith also praised the six teams from the payams in Twic Mayardit who participated in the tournament, and also the coaches for their commitment to make the tournament a success.
“The purpose of organizing this event is simply to bring social harmony to our community of Twic Mayardit. The leadership of Twic Mayardit peace tournament has decided to form a friendly competition to promote sportsmanship, understanding, respect and unity among all participants and the spectators,” Bith told journalists.
He also thanked the sponsors and volunteers for making Twic Mayardit peace tournament a success.
Gen. Bona Panek Biar, the chief guest at the finals of the peace tournament encouraged Twic Mayardit community to remain committed to sports, because it is the only viable avenue to bring peace and unity among Twic Mayardit youth.
He also encouraged Turalei payam players and their counterparts Akocthon to continue working hard and also maintain the true values of sportsmanship.
Yolanda Awel Deng, the National Minister of Health commended Twic Mayardit community for organizing this tournament which mainly aims to bring peace and reconciliation among various communities.
Nyandeng Malek Delice, the former Governor of Warrap State encouraged youth and entire community of Twic Mayardit to continue organizing such tournaments that could easily inspire other communities in the country to do similar peace activities.
