The Nuer community in Jonglei State has resolved to end border conflicts during a weeklong peace conference held from July 4 to 9.
Nyamar Lony Thichot Ngundeng, the State Minister for Information and Communication said that the sections of Lou Nuer, Gawar and Jikany made this pledge during the just concluded conference that took place in Wei-Deng village of Nyirol County.
“The conference called for positive interaction with neighbors, how to promote trust and cooperation between communities, joint initiatives including cultural exchanges and joint development projects,” said Ngundeng in a statement issued on Thursday.
She noted that the conference also deliberated on cattle raiding and revenge killings.
Ngundeng disclosed that the conference also revisited the resolutions of the 2023 peace conference held in the same venue.
The delegates of the Wei-Deng conference also had the privilege to visit the historic Pyramid of Prophet Ngundeng in Bong, where they celebrated the 13th anniversary of the Independence Day celebration on July 9.
The conference was attended by chiefs, women and youth chairpersons, Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) representatives and representatives of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
