The Minister for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Martin Elias Lomuro on Thursday urged the newly appointed members of the state high electoral committees during their swearing to start preparing ground for the 2024 general election.

“You members of the high electoral committees for the 10 states prepare the ground for us. It is our business to travel, to walk on foot and to go on bicycle,” Lomuro said during the swearing ceremony held for the electoral officials.

He reminded them of the need to enlighten people at the grassroots on the importance of the upcoming electoral exercise.

Lomuro said when the ground is prepared; the politicians seeking positions would be able to travel to states to canvas for votes.

“They can dissolve themselves and merge, that’s not your business. Your business is to run elections. Your business is to register the political party. It is our business to run around and look for votes from the people. Let the people see us.”

He advised the state electoral committees to work hard to administer and manage elections in a way that will not cause violence.

“You must be hated. People must hate you for being steadfast and tough. You have no friends. You have no party at all. You don’t have a political party. You don’t have a tribe. You don’t have friends. Even your wife should not know what you are doing. That’s how you’re going to be,” Lomuro said.
