The Warrap State Minister of General Education and Instruction, Awut Mayom Agok has revealed that her ministry plans to carry out screening exercise for 3 months to weed out unqualified teachers in schools.

“We are going to do the screening of the teachers so that we know exactly who is ready to teach, when we do screening we are going to give them examination and those who qualify will be redistributed to the schools,” said Agok in an interview on Sunday.

Agok said the screening exercise will also help to get rid of ghost teachers on the payroll and ghost schools in the system.

Warrap State has so far registered 4632 pupils ready to sit certificate of primary education examination this year.

Agok noted that 2913 candidates are registered in 64 primary schools in Gogrial West and 196 candidates in Tonj East County.

She also added that the screening exercise for primary and secondary school teachers will be undertaken by the teaching staff of Rumbek University of Science and Technology.

“The greatest challenge we have is exaggeration of figures for teachers on the payroll, the number of students and the number of schools is also being exaggerated, for example according to data Gogrial West County has about 324 schools but when it came to the actual registration we found that only 64 schools are on the ground,” Agok disclosed.
