Agreement on key protocols is the first step toward comprehensive deal

The government and opposition parties in Nairobi signed 6 protocols including the security arrangements, humanitarian access and others which demonstrates positive step towards reaching comprehensive peace deal.

It’s remarkable that the parties have made headway after years of failure to agree on significant issues in Rome, Italy.

The Rome peace talks mediated the Catholic community Saint Egidio had very good intentions, but bringing the talks closer home has demonstrated that quick results can come out.

The parties should continue to build on this latest outcome to finally reach comprehensive peace deal that will give the war weary citizens hope.

As the elections loom, any positive outcome from the Nairobi peace talks which started in May helps to inject positive momentum.

The fact that the exiled Paul Malong Awan and Pagan Amum, both senior historical members of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement party are eager to make peace, means we are closer to realizing the objectives of the SPLM party to realize peace and stability across the country.
