The minister of petroleum Puot Kang Chol on Monday promised continuous engagement with the Sudanese warring parties in order to pave way for resumption of oil transportation through Port Sudan.

The government announced in February this year that the ongoing conflict in neighboring Sudan and the blockade on the Red Sea by Houthi militants had forced it to halt oil production.

“We shall work harder to alleviate the difficulty of resuming oil production. The Ministry will keep engaging with Sudanese warring parties to respect their commitment and support workers in the oil sector,” said Chol during the reception ceremony for Chol Deng Thon Abel, the newly appointed undersecretary for the ministry of petroleum in Juba.

Chol said that top leadership at the ministry will be meeting every Tuesday to discuss the future of the petroleum sector.

He encouraged Thon to work jointly with all the staff at the ministry to realize their targets.

Chol also advised Thon to work closely with Mohammed Lino Benjamin, the new Managing Director of the state-owned Nile Petroleum Corporation Limited (NILEPET) to support government programs.
