"We Dare where others fear"

The Acting Governor of Warrap State Aluel Garang on Wednesday paid tribute to the late Deborah Odwel Akiec, a representative of Gogrial West County in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA).
Garang eulogized Odwel as an industrious leader in the field of education who trained and mentored hundreds of students and leaders in the country during her burial ceremony in Akon town in Warrap State,
“She will be remembered as the mentor of many learners and leaders in Warrap State and South Sudan at large,” said Garang.
The legislator died on July 2, 2024 and her remains were airlifted on Wednesday from Juba to Akon town for burial.
The late previously served as the Deputy Governor of Warrap State before she was relieved by President Salva Kiir, and later on appointed MP in the TNLA on the ticket of the Other Opposition Parties (OPP).
Odwel was born in 1945 and she is survived by several children.
Several high profile leaders in Warrap State including Kuec Deng Mayar, the Speaker of Warrap State Legislative Assembly, Peter Matem Yak, Peace and Security Advisor and William Wol Mayom, the State Minister of Information and other notable dignitaries attended the burial of the deceased legislator.
