Jonglei forms committee to resolve conflict between Hol, Ayual communities

MPs in the Jonglei State Legislative Assembly have formed a seven member committee to resolve the conflict between Hol of Duk County and Ayual of Twic East County.

Jesus Panther Deng, the Secretary for Information and Communication Committee in the State legislature, said the committee is tasked to investigate and find amicable solution to the communal conflict.

“We have lost a lot of people, many lives are lost so it become a concern for parliament,” said Deng on Tuesday in an interview.

Deng said the committee will also engage with stakeholders starting with the top leadership in the State and people on the ground.

Maker Chol Adol, the Chairperson for the investigation committee said that they have requested Mahjoub Biel Turuk the Governor of Jonglei State to allow the national government to intervene and quell the violence that has overwhelmed the State.

In September 2023, clashes between the two communities in Lang area left three people killed including a prominent wrestler.

In June 2024, fighting in the same area left 7 people dead and scores wounded.

The latest clashes in Bioth-agany area on Saturday between Hol and Ayual communities left 9 people killed and several others injured.
