President Kiir travels to South Africa

President Salva Kiir Mayardit traveled on Wednesday to South Africa where he is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Kiir is expected to brief Ramaphosa on the progress of the Nairobi peace talks which commenced since May 3, in the Kenyan capital, according his press secretary Lily Adhieu Martin.

 Adhieu said the two leaders have a cordial working relationship, dating back to the liberation struggle.

South Africa’s role as a member of the C5, a group of guarantors of the South Sudanese peace agreement, further underscores the importance of the meeting between the two leaders.

The discussions between Kiir and Ramaphosa are expected to focus on advancing peace and stability in South Sudan, as well as strengthening the ties between the two nations.
