The parliament has announced it will put to task the New Finance Minister, Marial Dongrin Ater, alongside the Commissioner General for the National Revenue Authority, Africano Mande, in line with lack of payment of salaries in the country.

For nine months now, government employees have gone without getting their remunerations.

Oliver Mori Benjamin, the spokesperson for the Parliament said the two have been summoned before the house to explain strategies they have in place to sort out the arrears.

“The parliament as of next week, from Monday is going to summon the Minister of Finance to come and explain to parliament about delays and arrears of the government employees,” Benjamin told reporters yesterday in Juba.

“Alongside with him is the commissioner general of the National Revenue Authority,” he added.

“We were expecting as parliament that the minister of finance was going to start by releasing the arears of the 9 months but surprisingly we are seeing practically one month has been released to all the employees.”

Benjamin said the parliament is also concerned on collections from the National Revenue Authority, noting that reports suggest growths in those collections.

“The president made it clear that the non-oil revenue collections is enough to pay the salaries of civil servants, government employees and even to meet certain obligations of the government,” he said.
