South Sudan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and international cooperation Amb. Monday Semaya K. Kumba called for collective and unified efforts to address the ongoing conflict in Sudan

Amb. Monday who is leading South Sudan’s delegation, participated in the mediators’ retreat on Sudan, which recognized South Sudan’s role in the peace process in Sudan.

He expressed his gratitude to the government of Djibouti for organizing the significant and encouraging event on Sudan.

 The event was hosted by Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairperson of the IGAD Council of Ministers last week.

According to the statement posted on the Facebook page of the foreign affairs ministry Monday highlighted South Sudan’s role in the Sudan’s peace process.

He called for collective and unified efforts to address the ongoing conflict in Sudan, emphasizing the importance of respecting Sudanese sovereignty, views, and the dignity of its people. 

Monday advocated for an immediate ceasefire, monitored by an African owned mechanism in partnership with reliable global partners, and stressed the urgent need for accessible humanitarian assistance, peace talks, and civilian protection.

He also underscored South Sudan’s efforts in hosting and caring for over 700,000 Sudanese refugees.

Monday urged the warring parties in Sudan to honor the ceasefire agreement signed in Jeddah and announced South Sudan’s readiness to facilitate upcoming stakeholders’ meetings and peace negotiations in Juba.

He reassured participants of South Sudan’s unwavering commitment to supporting the peace process and the people of Sudan, wishing them lasting peace, stability, and prosperity.
