President Kiir calls for unity on Martyrs’ Day

President Salva Kiir Mayardit urged South Sudanese citizens on Tuesday to unite and embrace peace for future generations to thrive

President Salva Kiir Mayardit urged South Sudanese citizens on Tuesday to unite and embrace peace for future generations to thrive.

“I would like to use this occasion to remind ourselves to work hard to achieve peace, prosperity and togetherness in this great Republic of South Sudan. Let’s put our nation first above the individual interests for sake of our future generations” Kiir said in his statement to mark martyrs day on Tuesday.

President Kiir said that South Sudan’ independence did not just appear out of nowhere as an instant achievement, but it came as sacrifice from the gallant sons and daughters of our country who laid down their precious lives in liberating our country.

“This magnificent day, the 30th of July, comes each year to let us pay rich tributes in particular to our fallen heroes, who have always been nation’s hope and pride”.

He said that the Country need long lasting peace.

“Let me reiterate, our desire for peace must not be misconstrued as weakness rather it must be reciprocated for sake of economic wellbeing and peoples’ prosperity in the entire region”

The head of state welcomed the peace-loving nations across the globe to join him in this commemoration day. 

“On this occasion of the commemoration day, let us praise, recognize the veterans and martyrs of our beloved country, who sacrificed their lives for the sake of liberating this country, and at the same time, secured the dignity and pride of the Republic of South Sudan and its people” he said.
