Warrap State starts assessing impact of floods in Gogrial West and Twic Counties

Authorities in Warrap State have started assessing the impact of flooding in Gogrial West and Twic counties.

  Authorities in Warrap State have started assessing the impact of flooding in Gogrial West and Twic counties.

William Wol Mayom, the State minister of information and communication said on Wednesday that the assessment is being undertaken to mitigate impact of floods in the two affected counties.

Aguek Chan, the Commissioner of Twic County said that torrential rains since last week caused severe damages in the area.                                                                                                                                                          

“The torrential rains caused catastrophic damage to the local communities in 6 payams of Twic County. Over 5000 houses have been destroyed, and two primary schools,” said Chan.

 The flood risk assessment will cover all six Counties of Warrap State.

The flood risk assessment is being supported by UNMISS, UNOCHA, UNCHR and partners working in Warrap State.

The State flood management committee includes William Wol Mayom, Chairperson, Achol Lum Secretary, Bareh Malith member, Mabil Ater Deng member, and Santino Manut Ayuel head of Secretariat and media.
