The German Ambassador in South Sudan Christian Sedat on Friday met Monday Semaya Kumba, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to discuss issues of bilateral relations and the implementation of the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.

“We had a productive discussion, amongst other topics about the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement and the current Tumaini initiative,” Sedat said in a statement issued in Juba.

Sedat encouraged efforts which aim at finding inclusive consensus by all peace parties on issues related to implementation of the Peace Agreement as well as on issues regarding the upcoming general election in December this year.

He said that Germany remains a steadfast partner of South Sudan, adding that they for example they recently handed over a new water-supply system funded by the Germany  government to the tune of USD 2 million to support the populations in Torit.

The water supply system will enable more than 40,000 people to access clean drinking water in Torit.

Sedat reaffirmed Germany’s continued commitment to the people of South Sudan, highlighting its position as the second-largest bilateral donor.

He also reiterated the call made by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during her visit to Juba in January 2024 saying, “Finding consensus among political leaders is of paramount importance.”
