Authorities in Greater Pibor Administrative Area said on Monday that they have recovered 10 children who had been abducted in Eastern Equatoria State.
Oleya Akuer, GPAA minister of information said the children who hail from Eastern Equatoria State were traced following intensified efforts to reunite them with their families.
“These children are still not yet handed over to their families. These children are still with the government of Greater Pibor Administrative Area,” Akuer told The Dawn in an interview.
Akuer said the team of traditional chiefs and police are still searching for more missing children, adding that the number keeps on increasing on daily basis.
He disclosed that the 10 children are under the care of Pibor government, awaiting reunification with their families in Eastern Equatoria State.
Akuer said the children would be handed over to the government of Eastern Equatoria next week.
“We are planning to hand them over maybe next week, because we are still waiting for other children who have been recovered from different places. We have sent traditional chiefs with the police to that place in order to recover back those children who are located there,” he said.
Akuer said the initiative is aimed towards building trust and peaceful coexistence between GPAA and neighboring communities in Eastern Equatoria State.
“My message to the people of Greater Pibor people is you hurry up to hand over the children in your homes, we want to hand these children over to the government of Eastern Equatoria as soon as possible,” he said.
