The Chairperson for National Alliance of Opposition Parties Kornelio Kon Ngu has been suspended over violation of the conduct of business.
“We the undersigned leadership of National Alliance of political parties, here by formally announce the relief of Kornelio Kon Ngu from the position of Chairman of National Alliance with immediate effect,” said a statement issued on Tuesday in Juba by the coalition.
It said that Juma Saeed Worju will act as the interim Chairman of National Alliance of Political Parties and Jeach Chuol Gai Chuong will act as his deputy until elections are held to appoint permanent leaders.
The leadership of National Alliance revealed that Kornelio Kon Ngu’s political party has taken 8 out of 15 political seats for the national legislative assembly and the council of state allocated to the National Alliance.
The parties under the National Alliance accused Kornelio Kon Ngu of overstaying in his position since 2016.
A disorganized opposition provides the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) led by President Salva Kiir the upper hand in setting the political agenda as the country heads for planned elections in December 2024.
